Participants colloque PHRAGMITES 2011

The 7th workshop of the PHRAGMITES Group, research group dedicated to the study of the invasive strain of the common reed and composed of researchers from Université Laval, McGill University, Université de Montréal, was held at the Biodiversity Center of the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (IRBV) at the Montreal Botanical Gardens on the 13th and 14th of October 2011. This workshop was organised by Claude Lavoie (Université Laval) and Jacques Brisson (IRBV). More than 70 people including researchers, student researchers, managers, etc., attended. The audience was treated to a variety of conferences on the common reed such as genetics, impacts on the fauna, repercussions of climate change, control methods and more. They also had the pleasure of listening to seven conferences by American researchers (Montclair State University, University of Georgia, University of Rhode Island, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Utah State University) conducting ground-breaking research on reed genetics or its impact on animals. This workshop was a great success. A summary will be published shortly in an upcoming issue of the Naturaliste Canadien.
